Searching for a motherboard free from VRM problems seen in the Z390 lineup. I bought one early on before Asus was proven less reliable, particularly during overclocking. Is it reasonable to expect this pattern to keep happening and would it be wise to choose makers that performed better in the prior generation?

Z490 motherboards are just emerging with limited details available at the moment. I can point you to a comparison by GamersNexus that evaluates various Z490 boards, their configurations, power usage, and their impact on CPU temperatures. Even though it isn't a direct VRM analysis, it should provide useful insights.

I chose the Formula from Asus and found Buildzoid satisfied its needs, though not overly impressed with the waterblock. Because this will be a water-cooled setup, it will definitely get the boost from the included 10GbE connection.
