Top X670 models compatible with the latest 7800X3D and 7950X3D boards.
Hello! AMD recently unveiled their latest CPUs featuring 3D Cache. I’m considering upgrading from AM4 to AM5 and planning to use their newest processors. I want to stick with the full AM5 platform, even if it means switching motherboards like Gigabyte X670 AORUS ELITE AX or ASRock X670E Pro RS. DDR5 memory is essential for me. On my previous AM4 setup I had 32 GB at 3600 MHz, and I’d like to match that capacity. I’m unsure which CPU to choose—do I go with a 7950X3D? It seems advantageous to have 3D Cache even if only a few games use it. Should I opt for 5600 MHz or should I consider higher-end 5200 MHz options but with better quality and overclocking potential? I’m surprised that the 7950X3D has a low TDP of just 120 watts. Could you recommend the best RAM for AM5?
Is there any reason you're spending so much on a board? Right now, every am5 board handles a 7950x without any issues but saves you a lot of money. For RAM, aim for the lowest latency and the highest clock speed you can afford. Most DDR5 sticks that run at 5000MHz or higher will still perform well at 6000.
I aim to fully utilize this platform. I prefer not to purchase another motherboard when the next 8000 series is released, or else I’d feel restricted. Also, I think updating the BIOS for the 7950X3D might be necessary, though I don’t currently have an AM5 CPU.
Bios flashback on a board. Then it can be done without a CPU. It's funny how the first 300 boards that got Ryzen 5000 support came later, mostly budget models and some high-end ones. The features are pretty much the same now, and paying more doesn't really help in the future since these boards don't unlock for newer CPUs. They're just as they are, and if anything limits a newer model, a 1000$ or 250$ x670 will still face the same problem.
Choose the ROG CROSSHAIR X670E Hero to skip MSI issues—perfect setup. Solid features and reliable updates for future CPUs.
It was recommended to consider the B650 Tomahawk as a solid choice, though avoiding the B650 Aorus Elite from Gigabyte would be a better alternative.
