Hello, I'm looking to purchase a gaming PC. What's the optimal Windows version for this build? You have the following specs: CPU - I5 4670K, Motherboard - MSI Z87-G45, GPU - GTX 770, RAM - 8GB, PSU - Seasonic 650W, HDD - 1TB SSD, Kingstone case (cooler Master or Thermaltake).

Windows 8.1 offers cost advantages over Windows 7 in many regions, provides enhanced performance through improved optimizations, and boots more quickly due to its lighter design. This makes it a more efficient choice for gaming and everyday use. Windows 8.1

I really dislike 8 or 8.1 for gaming—it's just terrible—so I'm going with 7 instead.

I’ll take 7, just like you said, even though 8.1 is lighter. I don’t think it’s a full set.

I'm looking for version 8.1 or 7, but I believe Windows 8.1 comes with many issues.

There seems to be no significant distinction between 7 and 8/8.1 for gaming. Just choose the one that suits your daily workflow (unless you need a dedicated gaming PC). I usually go with 7 because I dislike the 8 interface. The 8.1 offers improvements like a better start menu, but it still had some issues. The 8 was faster and had nice features, though they were often overshadowed by a clunky interface and a poor picture viewer. Ultimately, it comes down to personal preference—pick what feels best for your daily use.

I’ll get a Windows 7 desktop, not a laptop. For a PC, the best option is Windows 10 or Windows 11 if you want something modern. If you really need Windows 7, it’s still usable but consider upgrading later. Let me know if you want tips on choosing a new PC!
