Hello! I just purchased a GoPro HERO4 Black camera and am filming in 4K at 30fps. I'm looking for the optimal video format for Premiere Pro CC. I want something that's simple to work with, maintains high quality, and isn't overly complex like DV-AVI. Thanks!

Does it refer to the Hero4's audio recording format? It consistently uses MP4 with H.264 encoding, meaning the output will always be a compressed file. I’d encode in h.264 at a matching bitrate, which means some quality loss is unavoidable.

Are you referring to the act of cutting or sharing something online?

Let’s keep things clear and friendly while you work. Here’s a more approachable version:

If you need the file for cutting, just let me know. I’ll make sure it’s ready without losing any quality. Let’s get this done smoothly!

Most video formats are designed to lose some quality each time they’re reencoded. To maintain the best results, encode only once and choose H.264 with a bitrate that suits your needs. Higher bitrates generally yield better quality. While H.264 can be made lossless, it requires significantly more storage space.

What size space required? For instance, a GoPro video at 6GB using H.264 lossless will need more space.

It's hard to predict exactly because it depends on various factors. Since this is real footage, the size will likely be substantial. I checked encoding a 208MB video with lossless settings and the fast preset; the result was about 1.48GB, which is roughly seven times larger than the original. If your 6GB file follows a similar pattern, it could grow to around 42GB.
