I’m planning to switch to an Intel Core I7 4790k and an ASUS Z97-AR LGA 1150 motherboard. I understand it will need a new Windows installation. For gaming purposes, what software would be most suitable (excluding video recording)? Which antivirus offers the best protection? What BIOS configurations work best? I’ll also update the drivers.

If you're looking for free antivirus options, consider using Avg, Avast, or other similar software. For paid solutions, there are reputable choices like Norton or Grammarly for games. You could also explore alternatives such as Raptor (AMD Gaming Evolved) which works on Intel and NVIDIA platforms—it's not terrible and can still provide value.

Regarding BIOS configurations, there isn't a one-size-fits-all solution. It largely depends on your personal preferences. The essential steps include configuring the boot sequence properly and selecting the appropriate SATA mode (such as ACHI or RAID). Additional adjustments are typically made by enthusiasts and advanced users. Unless you've thoroughly studied their methods, avoid modifying those settings. If your RAM supports speeds above 1600MHz, enabling XMP might help slightly, but the gains are minimal.
