You can invest in higher speeds for faster Ethernet, but internet connections will be constrained by the rates outlined in your agreement with your ISP. It supports local network access and device communication, which becomes important mainly when using a NAS. PCIe ports allow you to customize system expansion in various ways—adding storage interfaces, more M.2 slots, additional SATA ports, etc. If your only use is gaming, extra 1 x16 slots may not be necessary.
