Hello everyone, I'm setting up a new PC and currently have an Intel 10600K and an MSI MPG Z490 gaming edge with Wi-Fi. I'm considering a DDR4 4400MHz C19 chipset at $129 or a DDR4 3800MHz C14 at $199. Both are on the same compatibility list. Anyone have advice on which would be better for gaming? Also, is the extra $70 worth it for faster speeds?
Well there's a point of diminishing returns. Anything that's 3200 cl16/ or 3600 that's cl16 will be fine. If you can maybe find a 3200 cl14 kit that uses b die as well. A 4400 cl19 kit won't bring extra performance to the table compared to a 3600 cl16 kit. And that'll probably be a lot cheaper.
The 4400 CL19 at $130 looks reasonable. With some adjustments and a bit of luck, you could reach around 4000 CL15, which would be perfect. The kit @xg32 is also quite reliable for the cost. You might also consider a more affordable B-die such as 3200 14-14-14-34 or 3600 16-16-16-36 and fine-tune it yourself if you prefer. If you plan to add more sticks later, look into a Micron Rev-E kit—it’s lighter on IMC and could work well with four sticks overall.
