Hi readers, for managing a versatile media/fileserver PC, you’ll need a reliable OS setup. Consider using Windows 10 as your base, with the option to boot from a separate drive if desired. Plex could be great for streaming media. The hardware specs suggest a strong configuration: Intel 7900X with watercooled SSD, NVMe boot disk, and plenty of storage. For software, Mint OS paired with Unraid or FreeNAS would work well, offering flexibility and security. If you're open to Linux, Mint is user-friendly, but ensure it runs smoothly on your hardware. Let me know if you need more details!

UnRaid is excellent, though you'll need to pay $130 for a license after the trial. I'm new to FreeNAS, but I've only heard positive reviews—it's completely free. That's all you need to know!

Have you got the hardware? Give it a try and check out what you prefer. For video output, run Windows on it and use Hyper-V for virtual machines, plus storage for data. If you need GPU acceleration, probably Proxmox is the way to go.

Wait, I haven't heard of that before. Seems intriguing, I'll take a closer look, thanks!
