Hey everyone, looking for the best choice for a 2009 Netbook with Windows XP. It comes with an Intel Atom Z520, 2 GB RAM (upgraded), GMA graphics, and a 500 GB HDD (also upgraded). I’m not interested in XP anymore—I’ve tried everything. Any suggestions? Should I upgrade it to a Linux or MacOS version, or maybe a custom Windows setup that works well with Atom processors? Let me know your thoughts!

I used Linux Mint on a netbook, and it performed quite well despite the limited hardware.

The Z520 is a flawed processor design due to its SOC architecture paired with an unreliable PowerVR GPU. You might find Lubuntu or similar LXDE distributions helpful, though Windows appears to be the only fully supported option.

My top choice would be Xubuntu. I used a 1005HA and that operating system really switched things off, letting me move away from my XP/7 dual boot.

Could Vista run smoothly if you turned off many features and did some heavy tweaking?
