I'm nearing the release of my Oculus Rift but I'm hesitating about ordering it. The VR gaming scene hasn't really delivered standout titles lately. What should I consider playing? Also, please don't recommend switching to the Vive—I don’t have enough space for it.

The experiences I've encountered in VR seem quite disappointing, lacking real substance and appearing hastily crafted with a basic aesthetic. I wouldn't invest significant resources until the product meets high standards and delivers its full potential.

Games similar to Elite Dangerous and project cars on the Vive/Rift aren’t necessarily made with realistic textures. The current game selection for these headsets is quite strong, especially as it develops. I know some users who haven’t experienced VR yet still long for classic AAA titles like GTA-5. Those titles usually take years to move from idea to reality. There are a few that do, but simpler visuals often provide deep immersion and fresh gameplay. Check the Vive subreddit—you’ll see people enjoying both room-scale and non-room-scale experiences. Those unfamiliar with VR will naturally prefer traditional games only.

Chronos stands out with its unique blend of Zelda and Dark Souls vibes, plus a classic Resident Evil camera style. I really connected with it. There’s an eve valkyrie available for free, which adds to the appeal.

The top experience I've had so far includes Flight Simulator X on Steam at a low price and an add-on called Flyinside FSX available online. It's truly remarkable. The realism is unmatched compared to anything else I've tried. All reviews are very positive. I've practiced flying in a Cessna 172, sat in a Piper, and the accuracy is perfect. I suspect the 747 cockpit is even more precise. With other mods like the weather mod active sky next, it's one of the closest simulations to real flight. Another excellent option is the American truck simulator (I'm open to suggesting European versions too, but VR isn't quite working right now—maybe a technical issue).

Don't cancel. Elite Dangerous is a must buy. Looks great of you have the horsepower to run VR Max and per pixel override at x1.5 Project Cars is a blast - as is i-racing The climb is great - will be better with Touch And Adrift it awesome once you have your VR legs.

The GPU you're using is your GTX 980. Running at 1.5x scaling can strain it, especially if you notice reduced frame rates.

At 980ti on 1500MHz I’d consider x1.25 with a solid 980 boost, or opt for lower speeds and x1.5. Also a handy tip: in Elite Dangerous switch your HUD to a muted green for better visibility.

Thanks in advance for the suggestion. I'll check it out. I might adjust the settings. Right now I'm using elite at 135% scaling with medium options (textures go to ultra) and it works well. I'm planning to upgrade to a GTX 1080 once third-party cards become more affordable, but not too expensive.

Even if t here isn't a lot of new VR games coming out yet, there are heaps of previous games that have added VR support such as source games Half Life 2. Portal, Garry's Mod, etc (it'd be cool to play garry's mod on a cineamod server lol) or the 3d VR Cinema app is there too, lot of cool apps you can test out b4 there's more games coming out too. VR Arcade looks fun imo, some other games with VR support include; Grand Theft Auto V, Jedi Academy, Hawken (which looks awesome), etc lol
