Considering your setup, you might want to explore a strong CPU for your 4070Ti. Your current i5 12600K works, but performance drops in demanding CPU tasks like VR simulations. An AMD option could be appealing since you already have an Intel board. Alternatively, upgrading to an AMD processor with a new motherboard and DDR5 RAM would boost speed, though it comes with higher costs.

You can refresh bios and reach up to 14900k without buying used. There are many faulty CPUs available for the 13th/14th gen models. In short, I expect a slight increase from the 12th to 14th generation—just cores and threads. The hype around overclocking is fading. A 14700K seems like the best bet, likely costing between 240-320$. The decision comes down to how much you’re willing to spend.

If you already have alderlake, any Raptor Lake model will improve performance, though their bandwidth is constrained on the DDR4 platform. You might not achieve full potential in certain tasks that benchmarks suggest. It remains a budget-friendly upgrade since switching platforms is significantly more costly. For example, adding 10% more performance in bandwidth-limited jobs could cost around $300 over ten years. (Both 13th and 14th gen support Raptor Lake, but the newer version offers about 100Mhz faster clocks after overclocking—though this isn't always consistent.) And avoid purchasing used Raptor Lake systems.

I was searching for a 14900k or 14700k model. I understand you should avoid the used version for the 14th generation XD.

14900K isn't worth much, particularly with your DDR4 RAM. Consider buying something cheaper like the 14600K or switch to Intel and use an AM5 setup.

I wouldn't move up from a 12600k to a 12700k unless it's worth it, but the 12700k price point makes the 14700kf seem less appealing. You really need those extra cores, though—I’d probably stick with the 12600k right now.

present mon is the usual setup. if you notice GPU usage under 100% in a scene, it indicates a constraint, though it doesn't specify the cause—it's mainly about CPU and GPU. If memory is the bottleneck, it still shows as a CPU issue. staying on alder lake wouldn't be worth it. 13th generation is still available too. I also think f variants are just a way to distract from problems. I agree a 14900k isn't great value, but switching platforms would offer better savings. 14600K (with civ 7 and new AC game) is a more cost-effective upgrade than changing from a R7 7700x. (prices for microcenter)

Yeah 14600K is a "quick win" upgrade, but with 0 future upgrade Maybe not that of an issue as AM6 should come in approx 2 years...
