I'm setting up a new MATX setup centered on the 3080. With roughly $400 allocated for CPU and motherboard, I'm focusing on a 2.5Gb LAN. The system needs to handle gaming, game capture, and 1080p video editing.

Check for particular board functions or input/output requirements beyond LAN. Have you chosen a case yet?

It fits nicely and includes built-in WiFi if needed. Gigabyte sometimes encounters problems with XMP settings in the release BIOS, but this was resolved promptly via a BIOS update. It performs smoothly at JDEC speeds until you apply the update. PCPartPicker provides a CPU list: Intel Core i5-12600 at 3.3 GHz, 6-core processor ($229.99 on Amazon). The motherboard is Gigabyte B660M GAMING X AX DDR4 Micro ATX LGA1700 ($159.00 at B&H), bringing the total to $388.99. Prices cover shipping, taxes, and available discounts. Here’s a revised version of your text:

The list includes an i5 and a nice tower cooler. You can find a Ryzen 7 with a good B450 motherboard within this budget, as shown on the provided links. The board I selected features a BIOS flash button to guarantee compatibility with Ryzen 5000 chips. Gaming performance is quite similar for both options. An Intel build would be preferable if you plan to upgrade to the 13th generation later, though the Ryzen 7 offers marginally higher FPS in certain titles.

Choose the mesh version instead of the solid front without airflow. If only the solid front is available, opt for the Matrexx 40 (3fs) because it features a perforated design for good airflow. The 3fs model includes three RGB fans, eliminating the need to purchase additional fans. For CPU and board selection, the B550M AORUS PRO P and R5 5600 are recommended. The AORUS PRO P costs around $130, offers ample I/O, and provides 2.5GB of RAM. You might want to upgrade to a 5700X for better future compatibility.

Thank you for your quick responses. The 12600 seems ideal at the moment as it offers the optimal route for upcoming improvements.
