Which renderer are you working with? It’s crucial here. Using VRAY RT means maximizing the number of GPUs for better performance. You’d likely benefit more from having many RTX 2080s than upgrading the CPU. A setup with as many RTX 2080 Ti as possible would be ideal—2080 Ti isn’t worth it for rendering. A 1080 Tis configuration also functions well, since all rendering tools focus on VRAM and CUDA cores.

Maya operates on a single CPU and doesn't rely on multiple GPUs, making high-end GPUs unnecessary unless the renderer is CPU-dependent.

It really comes down to the renderer you select. You have options like Arnold software renderer and Arnold GPU renderer. Usually, GPU-based tools don’t offer every feature of the software version, but they’re much faster and more affordable than using a CPU for rendering.
