$549 for double the cache and four extra cores looks promising, but I’m aiming for around $500 USD max. The Ryzen 9 5900X is $549.99, which would move it to another price range, though it’s definitely a good investment.
I’d likely hold off until the 5800X arrives. Using 4400MHz memory for anything besides benchmarks probably won’t work with Zen 3—go with 3200 CL14 and push it to 3600-3800MHz, though it’s still uncertain if AMD really boosted the IF speed on these chips. Keep an eye on reviews.
In the survey, OP mentioned the 3900X priced at $399 USD, suggesting the MSRP for the 5900X would be around $150 higher. It seems rare to find a 3900X at its original $499 MSRP these days, or similar deals for most Zen 2 chips. Across all Ryzen generations, prices tend to drop a bit within a few months after launch. I recall you once saw a 3700X available at roughly the same or lower cost compared to what it originally cost for a 3600X. This pattern probably continues with the Ryzen 5000 as well.
