A suitable Z690 board would be the B550 or B650 models. They offer solid compatibility with your I7 12700K and Corsair Vengeance 2x16GB RAM. For watercooling, the B550 is a popular choice and fits well with EK waterblocks. Both options stay within your budget range, especially if you opt for the B650.

I purchased an Asus Z690 Hero and am enjoying it. It comes with a full cover block. I didn’t buy it because I already had a CPU block. After overclocking my Aorus Z390 Master, the VRM temperatures stayed stable at 5.0 across all cores. With the Asus unit and its AIOC, the temperatures are also within acceptable limits, so I didn’t feel the need to upgrade myself.

There are good reasons for that. It's not just because it ranks among the top three strong boards, but you can really dive deep into it, explore every detail, and run through it regularly—just like I have with my Maximus X Hero.

I also create a fresh setup for myself every three years while keeping the older ones around for other tasks. My previous system was a 6700k with the top gigabyte board, now powering my home NAS with six SSDs and six mechanical drives. My Threadripper functions as a virtualization host that retrieves storage from the NAS.

Are you looking for a CPU module from Ek? Or a motherboard with a full water block? If the former is fine, the Z690 Tomahawk works well. The latter might be out of your budget.

With the tomahawk you can easily access higher power limits and have it surge dramatically.

Ensure adequate airflow around the board as well. Expect only minor variations, typically reaching 5GHz across all cores in best scenarios.
