You're considering NAS/PLX setups and wondering about OS choices. Truena isn't the only option, but many NAS systems don't support adding extra drives once a pool is created. Other popular choices include QNAP, Synology, and even Linux-based setups. It really depends on your needs—stability, ease of use, and future expansion. If you want flexibility, look into QNAP or Synology, which allow more drive management.

I’ll stick with Ubuntu. It seems to be the most straightforward way to locate fixes. ZFS support is impressive.

I’ll give it a shot, I really didn’t realize there was an unraid (and a pretty budget-friendly optionBig Grin).

Unraid requires a fee for its license. Truenas offers a free alternative.

I don't use Omv. Fewer and fewer people are suggesting it because of issues.

In the latest Jake/Linus setup, a server video discussed heavily Truenas usage.

They tried it, but as someone who's been using it since U8, the main reason to choose Unraid is having several drives of varying sizes that you need together; it also adds expense, so I wouldn't suggest it for a NAS where reliability matters.

Open Media Vault also supports expanding the pool via TrueNAS by using a VDEV. Choose your method—striping or mirroring—and configure the VDEV properly, then it's complete.
