I received the PC from my dad some time ago. It’s starting to show its age. I plan to replace the hybrid SSD/HDD with a regular SSD. If that doesn’t improve things much, what’s the best CPU option I can fit in? It already has an i3 4130 chipset. Just want a straightforward CPU upgrade—no fancy overclocking or mysterious parts attached behind the back.

He uses it for something specific, but the CPU might be the main bottleneck. I recommend starting with an SSD upgrade first, then check if the performance meets expectations before considering a CPU upgrade.

exploring browsing, shopping, videos, and internet calls is typical. It’s mainly the HDD atm that stands out—it stays consistently at 100% usage alongside the CPU and RAM, often dropping to 50% or less. I’ve noticed the CPU can spike to full capacity in certain cases, which remains a worry. I’m curious about the maximum CPU power it could handle. With around £50-60, I could possibly get a used second-hand i7-4770, offering double the cores and about 20-30% better performance per core. I’ve been looking at some i7-4770 models; they have a TDP of 65W compared to the 4130’s 54W. I’m wondering if they could manage that load. The SSD should consume less power, and an additional 11W shouldn’t be too much.
