I currently run a 2 pc system with an i5 8600k and a 1080ti, using x264 for streaming. Everything worked fine until I added more animations and transitions, which now cause occasional stutters in my stream. Frames are still stable in Obs and on Twitch Inspector, but not during recording or while streaming. I’m looking to switch to a streaming PC with Ryzen, thinking they might be ideal for my needs. I haven’t paid much attention to their latest updates, so I’m trying to decide based on what works best. Some YouTube videos show 3600X and 3700X offering good performance at reasonable prices, but most are focused on gaming and streaming. I’m hoping someone can advise me on the lowest tier Ryzen that meets my requirements without issues, as well as a mid-range option for extra power if needed. I’m open to Intel suggestions, but based on what I know, Ryzen seems to be the best fit for my current setup at the best value.

Wait four days before the next generation of Ryzen CPUs becomes available. They’re expected to outperform Intel in gaming and excel in productivity and streaming tasks, making them a strong choice. Consider purchasing the Ryzen 7 5800X or 5900X—8 and 12 core models respectively. These offer ample power for both streaming and gaming.

The goal is to find the ideal CPU without breaking the bank. I'm not after the fastest or most expensive option; I just need something reliable enough for streaming and handling multiple tasks at once. I want a processor that delivers solid performance without overspending, especially since I'm only using a portion of it.

keep an eye on the upcoming AMD releases. I expect multi-tasking will improve with new CPUs, even in older generations like the 2000s and 3000s. I’d hold off to check the R7 3700/x/XT specs soon—they should handle streaming well. A B450 motherboard would be a good choice, and getting a 2060 at a lower price could work for your NVIDIA encoder workload.

I bought a 2080 Ti a while ago for my gaming rig, which is why I moved my 1080 Ti to my streaming PC. I don’t plan to use the latest encoder; x264 still delivers better results. Even with the improved chips in newer encoders, I prefer streaming with x264 at a slower setting. That’s why I need a powerful Ryzen CPU to handle it, plus a bit more capacity. Since this will be a dedicated streaming machine, I can run x264 smoothly without problems. I’m able to do it now, but once I expand the workload, my 8600k isn’t quite enough. I haven’t tried overclocking yet, but I’ve decided to go that route. Ryzen seems to have made huge gains, especially for productivity, so I’m ready to upgrade my streaming setup.

Yes, since Black Friday is right around the corner. Im ok with waiting until then, with thr new amd processor dropping, and some Black Friday sales. Maybe I can get a good priced 3000 series. But would you happen to know whats the LOWEST tier Ryzen I can go that would get the job done, as well as the top tier for my task, thats like lil overkill but not crazy? So I can know the range I should be looking in.

I use an R7 2700 and a 2060ko would be worth at least 3700. The X and XT models are just slightly better than that 3700. My 2700 was bought before COVID, and on Newegg it was $149 with a free game and six months of Xbox access.
