Top choice for decoding and Minecraft servers is optimal.
Hello everyone, I’m looking to upgrade my setup for hosting a Jellyfin server. Right now I have an i5 6500u which can’t handle H265 or the new AV1 codec. I’m checking which CPU offers better support for 4K decoding. Both models will have similar specs—32GB DDR4 and a 256GB SSD. The 11800H is roughly $100 cheaper, but I’ve read it has integrated graphics while the 1235U features discrete GPUs. That could affect performance differences in decoding. I’m also considering the 11400H, thinking about running a Minecraft server alongside Jellyfin, so I’m leaning toward the 11800H for the extra $40. Let me know if you have any advice!
The most affordable path to both options is Arc A380. None of the CPUs you're considering support AV1. Using a laptop as a server feels like a huge challenge with modern specs. Problems with cooling, expansion, connectivity, and longevity will likely overshadow any advantages from having a battery that acts like a backup power source.
I was checking beelink minipcs because I could connect them directly via my router. I believed the igpus handled av1 decoding, allowing the media to be delivered in formats like h265 or h264 that the receiver supports.
I only have this model, 7940hs/7840hs. The main issue is the 780mm sensor—it lacks official drivers for IGPU yet. AV1 keeps crashing badly until then.
