Hey there! I'm checking in about finding a solid networking option for your home. You've got a two-story building with solid walls, and you're aiming for at least half the speed across the whole place. Your current setup uses Netgear OBI RBT50 tri-band 2 satellite mesh, which is great, but you're thinking about upgrading to something more robust. With Gigabit internet, that's definitely achievable. You mentioned looking into Asus AIMesh and are leaning toward an AX89X as the main unit, a Zen Wi-Fi XD4 for the upper floor, and an AX5400 Tuf for the garden area that already has Ethernet built in. Are there other options you should explore before making your final choice?

I don’t know the exact setup, but your question matters because it determines where to begin.

Shimejii holds the advantage. You might choose the Wirecutter mesh networking guide or opt for Ubiquiti equipment and use WAPs instead.

Are you sure there’s any way to reach the attic with the walls? Is it a separate floor altogether? In my experience, I connected from the basement—where the modem is—to the attic via the basement and then extended to the bedrooms. If that’s not possible, you’ll need to use a less-than-perfect repeater setup, which can be inconsistent but still work. You’ll likely need additional units because you’ll have to boost signals in nearly every room.

Wirecutter evaluates several well-known devices in the mesh networking category and shares their insights. This review comes from a reliable source, and I haven’t made any assumptions beyond the provided link.

Using the attic wiring is the most affordable option. Acquiring the 10 devices based on rooms and walls will cost significantly more.

I reviewed much of it from standard HVAC resources, but mesh works too if you don’t require wiring.
