I've been searching for an audio interface that can play my music while also supporting music production and editing. I considered audiophile Linux but prefer not to spend money on faster downloads.

Systems for capturing sound often use Macs because Mac OS processes audio with minimal delay. In my opinion, with the proper equipment and configuration, this isn't necessary, though it's worth considering. Theoretically, tuning Linux to match Mac OS performance is possible, but few dedicated audio tools exist for Linux, making it less common.

Consensus reached on OSX/macOS being commonly preferred for audio work. Windows also holds a strong position, with numerous applications tailored for it. A dedicated sound card is advised for Windows users. Linux is less familiar to me, but developers leverage it effectively to build systems. Today, choice mainly hinges on personal preference. It’s possible to compose music using BSD with existing tools.
