Top choice for 128GB RAM with R9 7950X
I currently possess 2x16GB of Kingston Fury RAM at CL36 and 6000MT/s since that was the configuration when I assembled my system. My understanding of optimal memory hasn’t fully evolved with DDR5, and I think there are subtle differences now regarding cache latency versus transfer speed between AMD and Intel. With some extra funds, I’m aiming for a 128GB setup, but I want to maintain performance as closely as possible. Ideally, I’d like a boost in speed, though that’s less important if it compromises stability. For recommendations, what options are suggested? The ASUS X670e-pro might be worth considering.
Are you looking for a system that handles heavy tasks smoothly? Usually, exceeding 64 GB of RAM isn't necessary for speed—most users settle around 32 GB for stability. Going beyond 128 GB is rare and often impractical, as those configurations are costly and limited in availability. While some high-end setups can support more sticks, they tend to be expensive and not widely accessible. The focus here is usually on reliability rather than peak performance.
You need special effort and adjustments to reach 128GB RAM at 6000MHz. With a 7960X, you might be okay with 32GB instead. For better stability, aim for 64GB running smoothly between 5600-6000MHz.
I could manage with 64GB, but my current setup isn’t enough for the demands ahead. If we treat 64GB as the ideal capacity, what hardware options would deliver the best performance without slowing things down?
Not feasible. Achieving performance levels above 5200–5600MHz with 128GB storage is challenging. You must weigh speed against capacity, as these goals are mutually exclusive. Consider exploring 2x48GB configurations, which tend to stabilize better. This discussion could offer insight into the present situation: https://forum.level1techs.com/t/ddr5-4-d...not-197153

These are both 2x24GB packages... It's worth noting that I wouldn't recommend opting for the high tCL/tRCD models. Those tend to be Micron-based, and unless your system runs the newest BIOS, you'll likely face serious issues at EXPO. The Micron variants need specific setup to stay stable; otherwise you might get stuck with blue screens even at very fast speeds (3600MT/s). Lower CAS kits such as 6000 CL30 and 6400 CL32 are still mostly offered in XMP profiles rather than EXPO, but they demand less tuning and only start to cause problems at high speeds if your BIOS isn't updated for them. With the improvements in later BIOS versions (though early versions had similar flaws), the drawbacks are minimal. I’d choose one of these two depending on your priorities: saving some cash with a bit more effort, or investing a little more for XMP support and peace of mind: [Product links provided]
They weren't there at first, but I messed up my tabs and switched them around. After that, I saw what I’d done and fixed everything. Still curious—why wouldn’t someone have the newest BIOS?
He isn't included in the newest updates because it changes how the information is presented, making the current version less relevant.
