The cost is slightly greater for me since it costs over 110 USD in Asia.
I noticed a lot of opinions about tomahawk being superior, but I’m unsure which upgrade is better than VRAM. From what I saw, mortar uses a single-phase heat sink while tomahawk has a two-phase design—this might influence your decision.
You're mistaken about that. Its VRM is actually inferior to the MSI or ASRock boards.
It seems similar at first glance, but the differences lie in design and compatibility. The AsRock board may offer better support for high-end Ryzen processors like 65W and 95W due to optimized thermal management and power delivery features. If your board lacks these enhancements, it might struggle to handle such powerful chips efficiently.
Go watch videos from the likes of Buildzoid or Hardware Unboxed etc. Also if you check the tier list in this section you can see it is ranked lower than both the other two boards. The B450-F is also usually more expensive because of the Asus tax. No reason to buy it over the other two options.
I have the part numbers for the VRMs on these boards which are quite alike. They're all from the same tier. The MSI model is 4C029N, while the others are 4C10B or 10N Asus, all using double capacitors... 92 amps—this isn't just an Asus tax; it's more like a ROG tax for that board. Still, I think it's worth it. The pricier option is true, but let's be honest. The (I) tx boards really stand out in the VRM area. It's just such a compact design! 6x IR3553 units compared to whatever you see here at similar prices for ROG. But regardless of price or specs, they can handle 3700X and below, and 2600X and below without trouble. No one is going to mess with this kind of hardware.
You're starting out with CPU and RAM overclocking. It's a good idea to check if your system supports it, but I should note that Intel's X-tra (XT) line isn't officially supported for maximum performance—only the B450 and B450M models do. Tomahawk is also not officially maxed out. Stick with reputable brands like MORTAR MAX or TOMAHWAK MAX for better results. XT won't match the performance of those models.
