They’ve upgraded their business setup with a 10-gigabit SFP+ NIC and are looking for a compatible switch. They need a device under $2,000 with at least 16 gigabit ports. Any suggestions?

On eBay you might discover high-end enterprise switches at low prices. For used options, there are plenty available.

for a business, the optimal device should match the brand of the rest of your network gear. if it's meant to replace their existing infrastructure, consider something from HPE Aruba—like this model: https://buy.hpe.com/us/en/networking/swi...h/p/JL724A. they're expensive, but they integrate well with their cloud management suite, which can reduce troubleshooting issues. be cautious about HPE's pricing; if you have an IT partner working with HP, you might get a discount of around 30%. if you're not concerned about cloud features or noise levels, a used switch could be a better fit.

They rely on Dell for all their equipment, including servers and routers. The current setup uses an HPE OfficeConnect 1420 Series switch. I've been considering the Dell N1500, but it wasn't available until August, which isn't convenient right now.

I own a Dell n2024 system. It includes two SFP+ and 24 GbE ports. I purchased it for around a few hundred dollars on eBay and it fits perfectly with my setup. I really enjoy using the Dell/Force10 CLI. Network switches are popular in computer hardware, they last a long time but become outdated quickly, so there are many opportunities to find modern gear that’s still supported but nearing end of life.
