MKV handles everything on its own. It's still in beta, but it functions perfectly, allowing you to use it for free as long as the keys are kept up to date.

Right from the start, breaking DRM to extract a DVD breaks Title I of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. 17 U.S.C. 1201 makes it illegal to bypass such protections.
