The experience feels quite distinct from what you're accustomed to. Your expectations shape your play, and Starfield doesn't always meet those standards. Many fans expect Bethesda titles to offer a certain style—like immersive exploration in Fallout or Elder Scrolls. Howard shared that players often feel disappointed when Starfield doesn’t deliver the kind of freedom they anticipate. He believes the game should embrace new ways, allowing players to discover all planets and embrace fresh content beyond past experiences.

It's been more than ten years since a meaningful title was released, and they still can't deliver a polished product without major fixes in just three months. All under his direction. Conflict remains constant, and Todd Howard clearly struggles to create a solid, enjoyable experience.

I’ll never purchase another copy of their games again... completely gone. There are plenty of other titles worth the investment instead. Noted, edited May 2, 2024 by thrasher_565

I appreciate certain aspects of Garfield but I think a more compact, dynamic setting would be better. A sprawling universe with endless, uninteresting locations feels overwhelming and unrealistic. People don’t have time to explore the entire world, so experiencing just a fraction means missing out on what it could offer. It’s better to have a handful of engaging planets with interesting features rather than a thousand uninspired ones.

Todd says he brought a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
Us replies that he bought steak and potatoes instead.
Todd insists the mistake is on her side.
Us clarifies they were not at fault.

Discovering realms in Starfield feels similar to observing paint set... But there are no loading pauses while you wait for it to cure.

Venture into and exit various zones such as the lodge or isolated caves and outposts. Expect loading screens along the way!

Yep. In the first 20-30 minutes, I was kinda disappointed. Mostly due to expectations and hype, as much as I tried to keep them in check (Elder Scrolls and Fallout were some of my favorite franchises in the past). But then I DID get rather hooked on running around completing missions, for probably the next 8 hours of gameplay or so. I liked seeing the cities for the first time, and some of the quests seemed like they had a lot of promise (like the generation ship, etc). I thought I was looking at it with fresh eyes. Enjoying it like a more traditional space RPG game, rather than a traditional Bethesda game. But then suddenly, I just fell off of it again, and never went back. I really think it was the lack of exploration enjoyment, and sub par base building. Even the ship building was rather finicky. I will give it another chance at some point. It wouldn't surprise me if the same thing happens again though. I'm waiting as long as possible, to allow for as many updates as possible (not that I'm convinced the core gameplay will change much). But we'll see....

Oh, what a playful phrase! Let me know if you'd like to explore it further.

Todd Howard feels similar to Elon Musk. Constantly exaggerating things and then failing to deliver with excuses. Think back to the promised "revolutionary" graphics for Fallout 76? I dislike how they release a mediocre game and depend on modders to complete it and improve it. They seem like manipulators and fraudsters nowadays.
