To LLC or not to LLC
To LLC or not to LLC
I'm trying to overclock my 4930k with Asus x79Deluxe to reach around 4.4ghz while keeping stability and CPU health in mind. Recently, I've been adjusting voltages by +0.005v to find a steady point near 1.248v without going beyond the VID of 1.261v. I'm now unsure whether to use an LLC controller or not. The Vdroop is only 0.016v, which seems low for my experience level. Since the system stays cool at around 67°C with a 25°C ambient temperature, I don't think adding LLC is necessary. If my understanding is correct, turning on LLC would lower the Vcc by 0.016v, but it might cause voltage spikes during load changes.
I would consider raising your LLC by one tier, or if you're on auto, begin at level 2.
It's feasible to encounter those damaging voltage spikes, known as VBoost. However, this only occurs when you push the LLC to very high settings.
Increasing the LLC levels gradually is completely safe.
0.016v is minimal, so it's fine to keep it as is, but I'd suggest checking if progressing through the LLC tiers until you experience any VBoost would be beneficial.
