My findings suggest a practical approach to assembling your own laptop. Using a partially assembled unit with a shell, power supply, motherboard, and other components allows you to choose the parts that suit your requirements and budget. This method offers flexibility and customization. There is a detailed guide available to help you through each step effectively.

I haven’t picked a basic laptop yet, and I haven’t selected the other parts either—like the mobile GPU, CPU, SSD, RAM, etc.—because I’m unsure where to look for them or which ones fit a barebone laptop.

It's not possible to select them separately.
An Intel CPU needs a matching Intel motherboard.
PCIe 4.0 SSD demands a compatible motherboard.
And the same applies...

All the posts I've seen about someone trying to assemble a laptop from scratch have ended up without a clear outcome. We'd say it's not a good idea and extremely difficult, they'd reply "you don't understand what you're talking about, I'll demonstrate" and then stop updating their post with the build they managed to complete. Just buy one that's already made.
