Just installed Star Citizen! Excited for the full release. Flying and dogfighting seem tough to master. Do you have any advice or shortcuts from pros to guide me? Thanks!
Multiplayer or Vanduul swarm? Which ship are you operating? How do you control the mouse and keyboard?
Flying in a Mustang Alpha with a mouse and keyboard. Here are some tips for flying:
Keep moving and avoid that silly rubber band move. Adjust your position, turn, and repeat. Master disconnecting your thrusters to glide backward. You need more flexibility. Think about protection—avoid being hit.
This guide teaches you how to roll and bank left and right instead of pitching, which is simpler than the usual method. It’s easier to avoid getting caught in black/red zones, so get comfortable with the throttle. You’ll need to work hard to keep most ships intact because the Mustang is delicate yet compact and quick, making it tough to hit. Your missiles can easily knock ships off balance, which is useful for escaping fights to restore your shields. However, they’re difficult to hit. Combine boost with spacebreak to halt quicker, increasing boost in steps or you just lose more temporary fuel (it recycles itself...). I favor independent flight without safety nets. It lets you rely on momentum and inertia, so the system doesn't constantly fix your trajectory when you turn. This helps you avoid being hit and reduces chances of being targeted. Also, apply your countermeasures regularly. You should never run out in either vanduul or spectrum matches.
