New release. A few weeks back I got the Asrock Z790 Steel Wi-Fi board with the original v1.11 BIOS. On the Asrock site it mentioned support for 7200 MHz RAM and v5.02 BIOS. My G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB has 32GB DDR5 at 7200Hz, so I wanted to upgrade the BIOS. I’ve never updated a motherboard before—I read it could be risky and might damage the board. Any precautions? Has anyone updated this model? Do you have advice?

The BIOS initiates and manages your motherboard, functioning somewhat like a system operating system. If power interrupts during an update, there will be no active operating system on the board, rendering it nonfunctional. This concept of 'bricking' the board part means damaging it permanently. As long as you're not exposed to severe weather or frequent power outages in your area, the process should be safe. Make sure you're on the correct download page for your specific motherboard before proceeding with the instructions provided. The typical steps involve locating a USB drive formatted in FAT32 (verify this in Windows via: This PC → Right-click drive → Properties → File system). If your stick uses exFAT, format it first to erase existing data, ensuring you have a backup. Obtain the BIOS update file from ASRock and extract its contents onto the USB stick—simply insert and copy without organizing files. Connect the stick to your motherboard and follow the guidance on the website to access the BIOS, locate the 'Update' option, and complete the installation.
