I recently got a nearly unused 1900x + Gigabyte X399 Aorus Gaming. My workflow involves heavy editing in Lightroom and Photoshop, plus video timelapses from RAW and Premiere/After Effects. I’ll also be gaming and streaming during free periods this winter. I’ve heard Single Rank Memory works well for Threadripper, but does that apply to all models with high core counts? Could filling all 8 DIMMs hurt gaming performance? If so, can I adjust BIOS settings to disable certain RAM? I’m aiming for the fastest 8x8 setup and was checking this Memory Kit, but it seems unclear if it’s Single or Dual rank. The F4-3200C14Q-32GTZRX is around $600, which fits my budget if it performs well. If it’s exceptional, I’d consider something closer to $800. Thanks for any advice! Oh yeah… I’m okay with just XMP profiles and open to overclocking. Hope Buildzoid has a guide on this topic…
I hope the price stays under $400, ideally around $350. It should only accept Zen and Zen+ components, as they can't match Zen 2 in memory or single-core performance. Single-core processing makes up a big part of what your software relies on, especially for real-time tasks. Adding more sticks is better than adding extra ranks; having more dual-rank sticks helps when a single rank per channel doesn’t provide enough capacity.
It was no cost, the person assisting began constructing but his relatives provided him with an iMac and he’s just left the components in his closet.
