Hey, I understand your situation. Your old PSU is likely the issue, especially since it's been two years and your motherboard is already damaged. If you're unsure whether the CPU is still working, upgrading to AM5 might be a safer bet. It gives you more flexibility and better power delivery for modern components. Your brother might be right to suggest a new motherboard, but consider testing your CPU first—don’t rush into replacing it without confirming its health. Let me know what you find!

CPUs usually don't fail. If you're worried about the PSU, avoid using it. It's not worth the chance. I won't give advice either way, since testing with an am4 board just to check is dishonest if you throw it away. AM5 focuses on performance, so if you have the original...

We're experiencing a PSU issue, seeing white smoke coming out. I'm considering switching to the AM5 platform. My CPU was connected via an AM4 motherboard, which failed when the PSU burned out. It seems the CPU likely died too. If I get a new AM4 board, I'm taking a risk, hoping the CPU is still functional.

Your budget for upgrading to AM5 would depend on the specific components and services involved. Consider factors like hardware costs, software updates, and any necessary training.

It hinges on the specific platform's guidelines. Amazon permits exchanges for nearly any reason. We're not here to debate morality, just sharing the details. It's generally not considered fraudulent unless circumstances warrant it. Updated June 23, 2025 by thekingofmonks

They permit it. From a perspective of intent, purchasing something just to verify and then returning it would be preferable. What you mean by 'Can' isn't a recommendation, just a fact of the situation. It's not a major concern overall.

If you only want to check it, see if there’s a repair shop close by. They’ll often try it for free.
