When troubleshooting server restarts, the issue often lies in hardware configuration and power delivery. You’ve encountered problems with missing HDDs and inconsistent adapter setups. To address this, consider verifying your drive layout and power setup. Using a 24 SATA controller may help if you’re running multiple controllers, but ensure proper cabling and power distribution. For power, a 500W PSU with two SATA ports is suitable for 10 HDDs, but confirm the total wattage matches your system’s needs. If possible, switch to MOLEX-to-X4 SATA adapters to simplify connections and reduce complexity.

It seems you're drawing close to the PSU's maximum capacity. Make sure to replace the cables as well for optimal performance.

Its been a while, so just a quick update. I was going to buy some new 1x4 cables as per the suggestion then I remembered I had some older 1x4 cables I could try, and it turned out I had three of the Silverstone SST-CP06 power cables, these have two high quality 2200µF capacitors included on the cable to provide stable voltage to all connected devices, so I removed the two 1x5 sata power cables and fitted these, and for now all drives started first time.
