Tips for modest i5 gaming
I've been using a non-overclocked i5-6500 for about two years now, and it's clear the machine is getting older. Many apps and games expect more than four cores and threads, which makes it tough to run smoothly. I’m thinking about switching to a Ryzen setup, but that won’t be possible anytime soon. In the meantime, what advice do you have for gaming on a weaker Intel CPU? I often notice lag when Discord runs in the background, and I barely see any extra load from other programs. Warzone feels sluggish when I use Discord to chat with friends. With 16GB of 3000Mhz RAM and an R9 390, my Z170-P board is set up well, but I’m curious about tips for getting the most out of Intel processors or ways to boost performance.
Running on older titles. That’s the situation. Switching devices for Discord isn’t helping much either. The quad-core i5s aren’t up to the job anymore, so it’s pretty much nothing we can do.
The solution is straightforward—avoid running Discover during gameplay. The 4c/4t CPUs seem well-suited. More cores at reduced costs and solid performance have only become common in recent years.
The i5-6500 performs quite well. I haven’t upgraded my rig since 2013, and I’m still using it. Some claimed that newer consoles like the Xbox One and PS4 were too slow for gaming, but that didn’t hold up when you consider their specs.
