Tips for handling the RMA of your Corsair RM550X (new item)
New RM550x CP-9020197-NA from newegg – should I return it via RMA with Newegg or contact Corsair directly? Which option offers the quickest resolution? I’m considering buying a PSU at Best Buy nearby and getting a refund instead. More details: I’m assembling a new PC as a Christmas gift for a family friend (grandparents on a tight budget, I’m the builder). It seems the PSU might be faulty. From outside the fan grille, I can see a loose spade connector heading toward the AC power input. I suspect this is the issue. I tried taking it apart but feel it could void warranty since it isn’t my original hardware. When I power on, nothing happens—reassembled everything carefully, confirmed the power button works, but no activity from the HDD. After shorting the motherboard sensor pin and connecting a hard drive as a load, nothing happened either. Uncertain how this passed quality checks; maybe the spade connector disconnected during shipping?
Based on the seller, you might need to contact Newegg or the individual seller. Corsair, unless they sold through Newegg, isn't legally accountable. Newegg’s return policy applies only to items listed on their own websites or apps as "Sold and Shipped by Newegg." For products from third-party sellers on their site, the policy extends to restocking fees, shipping labels, and more. Check each seller’s profile for details. To confirm your coverage, review the Warranty & Returns section on the product page.
Is the problem with the power supply unit or something else like the motherboard or RAM? Do you have the full specifications of your PC setup?
Ordered directly from Newegg without a third party. Added a return request for a replacement, but I’m unsure whether they’ll ship it right away or wait until I return the item first. No clear instructions on this. Found some Reddit discussions where users expressed frustration about Newegg delaying replacements before sending parts. Some suggested opting for a refund and reordering elsewhere. I’m trying to save time so my friend’s PC works, so I plan to wait until tomorrow when Newegg chat is open to get advice.
Also, @Somerandomtechyboi was correct – the PC won’t power on at all, as mentioned in my original message. I also removed the PSU and connected the sense pin to ground with a load, but nothing happened.
