Hey there! I began DS1 this morning and have been enjoying it. I'm about seven hours in and still struggling with the game's flow. The Firelink guy suggested ringing two bells—high one, low one. Got it. I navigated through the undead Burg and Perish, finally defeated those gargoyles after a helpful comment about using humanity to call the knight. That was really useful. I tried the bell, but the Firelink representative isn’t providing more guidance. Feels a bit confusing. I’ve been wandering, trying to dodge enemies and reach new bonfires. Past the blacksmith, I killed a big foe wielding lightning (my short bow is a solid choice). He led me into the woods, but the door is locked and the boss below needs stronger ranged attacks. Found some armor and a wolf ring—poise is handy. Eventually I turned back. A path emerged from a graveyard near Firelink, leading to catacombs—but skeletons keep respawning, making the descent tough. I reached a bonfire, but I’m not sure if it’s the right spot since the enemies are tough. Any advice would be great! If it matters, I’m a thief who started with the pendant. And don’t forget, I’ve died about 200 times already—those “invade” moments are super frustrating. These online folks are really not helpful! Thanks for reading, I hope someone can help me find my way.

Avoid the catacombs right now. Not yet. Unless you enjoy suffering yourself. You should head below firelink.

I kept trying to stay extra cautious, but the pain of losing has faded now! Repeating the same shot seems to have made me less sensitive to dying in the game.

I'll look up FireLink and attempt to navigate further.

You seem to have chosen the perfect class for the pendant. You might find your way there eventually.

Be extremely cautious! You invested three hours battling this boss? Unfortunately, that didn’t work out. You lost. Begin again. At that stage I quit.

In short, you can choose between being Hollowed or Human. You begin as Hollowed and can revert to Human using a Humanity item, then choose 'Unhollow' at a bonfire. Each death restores you Hollowed again, and Humanity has a cap, which means you might question the value of becoming Human if you're just going through the motions. Still, most of the game is manageable in your Human form. It mainly helps with tough boss battles by slightly improving stats and resistances, lets you call in NPCs and other players for assistance, and ensures you can only be attacked by hostile players if you're Human. You'll never truly win against them, since they've all completed the game and now focus on PvP for fun.

I guess I got it after all, thanks for explaining. The guy keeps showing up around five times, just waiting to taunt me before I give up... Appreciate it. I found an elevator leading to the "new Londo Ruins" – things are getting easier here. Enemies seem simple, and I feel like I'm back on the right path! Thanks again. I'll keep playing a bit longer and post an update later.
