Hi everyone, Motherboard: ASUS Maximus X Hero (non WiFi) CPU: Intel Core i7-8086K GPU: Zotac GeForce GTX 1070 AMP Edition 8192MB I’m looking for some guidance or advice. I’ve attached a spreadsheet with my overclock settings. From what you can see, the system runs smoothly at 5.2GHz @ 1.36v with AVX offset enabled. I’m not sure if there’s anything more I can do to push it further, or what your thoughts would be on keeping it as is or making additional tweaks. I haven’t changed the CPU cache settings, they’re still set to Auto. Would those be worth checking? Also, temperatures are good around 80°C under heavy load. The 8086K has been delidded and liquid metal applied. I’m using the NZXT Kraken X62 for cooling. Appreciate any help you can offer.
You might want to experiment with cache frequency to boost performance a bit. Regarding CPU speeds, it's unlikely you'll achieve higher frequencies with normal voltages and temperatures. Still, it's a great overclocking attempt!
The core performance exceeds what you'd typically find in most chips, giving you maximum efficiency from this unit. You're definitely among the top 1% in gaming speed. Regarding voltage, the only adjustment you might notice is with the LLC stage. Perhaps you can push it down to below 1.3 volts, though your current results are already quite strong.
I own two i7 8086k processors and I’m not seeing much improvement beyond 5GHz. Sorry, the i7 8086k struggles at higher speeds—my stable performance is around 5GHz (3832), while my other i7 hits 5GHz (3984). What I can do better is run cooler at 1.34GHz and with a package of 88C, which lets me skip the AVX offset. There’s really no real speed boost until you reach about 5.35GHz, so it doesn’t make much sense.
After processing in tools such as HWinfo (in sensor mode), aim to capture the voltage drop while under load. This ensures it differs from idle levels, and avoid relying solely on LLC compensation.
My temperatures stayed normal when I enabled AVX offset at 0, but I experienced a blue screen. I believe the stability problems aren't temperature-related, which is why I was checking if pushing the system further would help. I recorded a 'fluke run' because when I later tried the same settings (see Values08), the system became unstable. I assumed it was just a coincidence that it passed the Cinebench test without issues. Isn't reaching 5.35GHz with an 8086k processor quite unusual?
Yes,increase cache frequency for more performance. This should help the need for more vcore and higher temps too. Additional performance would be running memory at CL16 4000mhz if you can manage that frequency. You could drop cpu clocks to 5ghz and run the cache about 4.9ghz and migh be able to keep under 1.4v core doing so. Would have to do some testing but the cache frequency increase will make up for the lower cpu frequency. You have a ways to go yet. CPU speed isnt everything on this setup.
HWiNFO during Prime95 (version 29.4) displays Vcore at its maximum value of 1.376 and minimum of 1.360.
