I completed the ipconfig release, but I’m not sure I did it without powering down the router, so I’ll need to try again.

Run ipconfig /renew once your router is powered on again after releasing it. Otherwise, you’ll lose your IP address permanently.

Consider plugging the lan cable in or leave it off the PC based on your setup and needs.

I would connect via Ethernet and completely remove the PC from Wi-Fi. Right-click and erase the network settings.

I successfully tested it, and the process went smoothly after running the ipconfig /renew command. What should be the next steps?

Are you still linked to WiFi? That indicates you’re already getting an IP address through it. You must completely remove your WiFi connection from the machine—not just switch it off. Running ipconfig /renew should restore WiFi functionality. Disconnect your WiFi network entirely on the computer, keep the Ethernet cable connected and ensure the router remains powered on. After that, execute ipconfig /release followed by ipconfig /renew in sequence. If the connection re-establishes without issues, you likely missed a step. Generally, it should provide an IP address via Ethernet with no problems. If this doesn’t resolve the problem, there may be another setting on your PC or router causing the misconfiguration. It’s definitely fixable, though more details would help pinpoint the exact cause.
