On each laptop I've worked with (just a few, but enough) the BIOS offers an option to turn on battery time reporting. When you hover over the battery indicator in the toolbar, it appears automatically—no registry edits required. It might be a good idea to try it.

Give it a shot, the regular HP BIOS feels about the same as Windows 95 in terms of tweaking options.

It seems you're recalling your previous experience with a 2017 HP laptop, specifically a Pavilion model equipped with an Intel Core i5-1050 processor.

Received from a 3700U pavilion. Appreciate the help. Why is it turned off by default? It’s really handy for checking battery condition. If the charge drops below 1% on a desktop within an hour, it’s time to look for a replacement.
