Hey, I’ve been using this CPU for a while and after installing the Hyper 212 cooler, I managed to overclock it. However, I encountered some issues where the BIOS settings reset back to defaults, and when I tried to set it up again, the system would throttle during heavy usage. This problem occurred before, but I don’t recall the exact fix from the first time.

Using HWmonitor, I observed that the CPU performs well under load, reducing its usage/clock speed to 1400MHz, temperature, and voltage core to 1,080V. After a short pause, it would return to normal. Temperatures during idle are between 40–50°C, and 50–70°C when under load.

I’ve experimented with various solutions from forums and settings changes—adjusting the Vcore, tweaking power options, disabling turbo core, and using 'quiet' mode—but nothing resolved the issue.

Here are my system details:
- CPU: AMD FX4100 @ 4.5GHz
- Motherboard: ASUS M5A78L-M LX
- GPU: XFX Radeon R7 260X 2GB
- RAM: 2x Kingston 4096MB DDR3SRAM
- PSU: Corsair CX430
- CPU cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo
- OS: Windows 10 Pro

Edit: I discovered my motherboard version wasn’t the one initially listed, and it’s now corrected.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll reduce the settings and check if it improves. I'll attempt to reapply the stock cooler later to determine if the issue lies with the VRM temperature. Also, are those readings acceptable? I usually see them staying below 50°C under load in other systems using the Hyper 212.
Please don't put on the stock cooler!
Turn off the OC until you get a better PSU and possibly a better board.

It wouldn't make sense to use a tower cooler on that board mate; the VRM requires airflow even at stock settings, let alone overclocking. That's quite a big overclock as well.

Another bad board and low quality PSU situation.
The board doesn't need to be excellent; it can run at 4.5GHz every day on an FX-4300/GA-78LMT-USB3, but I also have a SeaSonic X-850... I'm in agreement about the PSU part.

The board doesn't need to be amazing... really. It's just okay. I'm in agreement. However, having a strong power distribution helps prevent the board from getting too hot.

None of the Micro UATX AM3+ compatible boards are recommended for overclocking.
