Throttle speed every few minutes while playing
Throttle speed every few minutes while playing
My game slows down every few minutes, often dropping to just 1 fps for 5 to 10 seconds. Restarting Windows didn’t fix the issue. I’m not very familiar with PC details, so I’m unsure where to begin.
I believe my setup isn’t too complex, as it works even on smaller games like Rocket League. I’ve tried several steps already:
Ensuring the game uses my GPU
Game mode enabled with hardware acceleration
Power plan set to full CPU usage
Installing the NVIDIA driver
Other settings I don’t remember.
I’m not sure what test to run or which actions to take next. My current setup is:
RAM: 32 GB
CPU: Intel i7-11800H (11th Gen, 2.30 GHz)
GPU: RTX 3060
Operating System: Windows 11
Please let me know where to start and what tests to perform.
Here are the details you asked about.
Please let me know if you need further clarification.
The exact make, brand, and model number of your power supply unit are available.
Do you experience GPU and CPU throttling during gaming?
What is the typical temperature reading while playing games?
Have you attempted a clean reinstall or update of the Nvidia GPU drivers using the DDU tool? This is just a suggestion.
Which PC games tend to lag after a short period, besides Rocket League?
Which gaming platform are you using to purchase games—STEAM, GOG, EGS, EA, UBI, or others?
Did you upgrade to Windows 11, or did you install it for the first time?
Thanks for the update. I own a laptop and its PSU is a Dell 240W model LA240PM190. I haven't attempted a clean install yet, but I plan to do it soon. The term "throttling" was used in the title, though I'm not entirely sure if it's the right technical description. The performance seems similar to when my CPU was throttled back in the past. I've tried Steam before, and the issue occurs with non-platform games too (such as those installed directly on my PC). It happened after a fresh Windows 11 installation. I'll share the current temperature reading tomorrow after gaming.
