Hello, your three new Seagate Ironwolf 4TB drives are connected via an IT-flashed Dell Perc H200. They’re stored in a zfs zaidz1 on Proxmox. I checked the SMART data and noticed all three show identical raw read errors and hardware ECC recovery errors. Over the past couple of days, the error counts dropped to 67, then slowly increased back up to 84 before settling again at 67. Recently, the seek error rate rose from 253 to 60. It’s odd that all drives display the same SMART metrics—could this be related to RAID configuration? The zpool status indicates no critical issues at the moment. No major data loss detected yet, but since you’re still within warranty, it might be safe to wait a bit before deciding on a return. Let me know if you need more guidance!

If they're part of a raid setup, I expect the same value to appear when seen as one drive. Have you tested another controller?

Seagate storage devices are showing the unprocessed numbers for SER, RRER and HEC. The same results appear on my server drives. These values usually behave differently when normalized. You can find more details in the links provided or trust that this is standard.

@emosun, your response is appreciated. Unfortunately, I don’t possess another HBA card, but I’ll attempt the second SAS port—they might be on different internal controllers. @Oshino Shinobu, thank you for the link; from what I understand, you’re correct. I was expecting no errors with a brand-new drive, but that assumption seems incorrect.

Oh, right—it's similar to assuming a brand-new car would be completely clean everywhere.
