Hello everyone, I recently shared my experience in the troubleshooting section about a problem with my 2950x system. The frame rate works well in most games, but I notice a clear stutter in titles like Far Cry 5—short pauses lasting just a few seconds. A forum member suggested this might be related to the fact that it's a second-generation Threadripper model, which can have latency problems. I'm planning to replace the whole system. I have some questions about how Threadripper 3 and the AMD 3950x perform in gaming. My setup will handle gaming, video editing, streaming, and possibly coding in the future. Would anyone know if newer Threadripper models can avoid this stuttering issue with the 2950x? Also, does the 3950x encounter similar problems?
I wouldn't invest in a 3950x since the next generation CPUs are just around the corner.
Are they planning to release new products soon after the 3000 series?
Generally more memory and improved core setups with better cache placement and timing are needed. Still, I’ll hold off on Zen 3 until then; a 2950x will certainly handle the task right now.
I really enjoy ThreadRipper because of its performance. There are no devices interfering with each other. With the bandwidth on AM4 and checking my connections, I’m confident AM4 would work well now. However, the extra PCIe lanes in ThreadRipper still stand out to me.
