I enjoyed it for many years, but I eventually understood it was just my affection for the IP, making it impossible to give an unbiased recommendation.

Why is that? I've played for years as well, but only over the last two really have started to clock in a lot of hours. at around 2400 right now. I've played the BattleTech board games, but MWO is the only exposure I have to mechwarrior in general. To me, the game is incredibly fair compared to other free to play games of any type. Sure, theres quite a bit of a grind ahead of you if you aspire to own a lot of different mech variants, but nothing is pay to win and honestly the mechs are a bit prohibitively expensive real money wise. will be interesting to read your thoughts on the game.
