I'm considering getting Elite: Dangerous and keeping it up until Star Citizen launches or until many features become available. Has anyone else tried it? What did you think of it?

Its...empty. I´ve been jumping in and out but there really is nothing that is grasping me in that game...yet. i had similar plans for it as i had with SC: Be a Miner/Manufacturer. However all you can do with the Ore is selling it..kewl and the Profit is shit, maybe if you get a bigger ship so you can get ore faster but with the Eagle/Hauler/Basic Ship..dont bother.... I´ve yet to try the co op in the game so no comments on that part. Combat is nice, its fun. although they might want to flesh out the details on the equipments.. Ships are ok, not as fancy or agile as those in Star Citizen but they are more Durable, Pro Tip, dont rush to buying a bigger combat ship (Viper and above), make sure you got cash to Put on something better then the stock Equipment...otherwise your dead in a fight. Pro tip 2: Basic ship sucks ass IMO Pro tip 3: Hauler is a good Transport ship in the beginning, and the Eagle is a Great Combat ship! not very durable but its somewhat more agile than the others. Hmm...exploration..well billions of system im sure but they are for the most part the same thing but with a different name. i haven't explorered that much but ..yeah, no Wormholes, or jump points, so if you were hoping for something at the EVE level then nope sorry not even half of that, maybe in the future. Missions...boring. moving on, Bounty hunting, ok so this is probably the most effective way as far as i know early game to cash up. you fly around, look for "unknown signal" warp in, Scan ships and se if they are "WANTED" then shot them, return to a station and cash in. GG You could always rob people of there Cargo as well. there is something that lets you "hack" a Unshielded ship and force it to eject its cargo" (If it has any) PvP, i only had 1 encounter...i think? maybe it was a NPC..im not sure. but yeah i was flying in super cruice and got "dragged" out of it then had a fight. There is a "tractor beam" that i forgot the name of that lets you Stop ships flying in Super Cruise and then you can attack them. it takes some times for the Engines to be able to jump again so no need to worry about them flying away again. Btw, ive never used it because i didn't feel like it. If your getting Beamed then you have to fly towards a..."escape vector" but its not that easy. the ship is shaking and you have to align your ship to the best of your abilities towards the escape point to escape, if you fail..well prep them guns or full power to the engines and hope you can outrun and Warp away. Communication... I have NO clue how it works..AT ALL! Conclusion/TL;DR: It Lacks content and i´m not sure why they released it in its current state. If you have any more questions, ask away.

This could be a compelling article if you're thinking about diving into it immediately.

I've been playing the game for two weeks now. It's taken me around ten hours, and I really enjoy it. In that time, I've experienced one dogfight, but I didn't purchase it for space battles. My usual role is cruising with my Sidewinder, handling messages, delivering packages, and managing market transactions. I get why some people call it "empty"—but given how huge the galaxy is, you rarely run into a ship constantly. Most of the time, I spot vessels during supercruise between systems or while refueling from stars. The visuals are great, and the music during supercruise is calming. Every session lasts at least two hours straight. Headphones on, lights dimmed, kids asleep. No one interrupts me—it's my downtime. Is it worth 60USD? I'm still figuring it out. So far, I've had a lot of fun and am already planning which ship to choose next, what upgrades to get, and which systems to visit. I love long voyages and can stay entertained for about half an hour without getting bored. During those moments, I explore new stars, planets, and dodge pirates trying to break me out of supercruise. The graphics run smoothly, even on my old XFX 5770 (1080p Medium, 55-60fps). While I've focused more on the Sidewinder lately, I'm considering upgrading to a Viper for more aggressive play. I'd like to earn rewards by taking down wanted criminals—there are plenty in the chaotic systems. Sidewinder (or Adder eventually) for exploration, and Viper for extra action.

I haven’t explored it enough to offer a detailed assessment, but I’m enjoying it quite a bit. Still, in its present form, I’m not sure it will keep my interest after the release of SC. However, it seems there will likely be a lot of important content added through paid expansions, and hopefully they won’t be too costly.
