Thoughts on building a bulldozer in Overwatch 2 and related college assignments?
Here’s a revised version of your text:
I recently had a conversation with a colleague about assembling a PC for their daughter. She mainly plays Overwatch 2, so that was the main consideration. Because of budget constraints, I suggested using some older components I already own, though it’s clear this setup is quite outdated and probably won’t support the latest high-performance games. She’s okay with this approach, but before we finalize the agreement, I thought it would be wise to check what others think.
For the build, I’m planning to use:
- CPU: AMD FX 8350
- Cooler: Zalman CNPS9900
- Motherboard: Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0
- RAM: 16GB (two 8GB modules) Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz
- GPU: Asus Strix GTX 1060 (6GB)
- Storage: 250GB Intel 520 SSD
- Drive: 1TB Seagate SSHD
- Power Supply: Not yet selected
- Case: Not yet chosen
This configuration is essentially what I’ve been using before a few years ago. I was still able to play games smoothly at 1080p with around 60 frames per second, especially on medium settings. I’ve made it clear to my colleague that this system won’t handle newer titles well, and since everything is so old there are no warranties. Still, I’m willing to lend a hand if things go wrong—no extra cost involved. This project is just a hobby for me anyway.
I’m estimating around £300-£400 for the build (a bit higher to cover the PSU costs here), and it will include a BenQ gaming monitor (1080p @120Hz), a Logitech G213 keyboard, and a Logitech G502 Hero mouse.
So there you have it. I’m presenting my options with honesty—this isn’t an exceptional setup, but it fits within the budget and is more affordable than the cheapest ready-made PCs that can run Overwatch 2. I really appreciate any feedback or suggestions you might have. Thanks a lot!
Support the others in choosing a Bulldozer rig.
There’s worth in this, even in the UK!
This would be a solid foundation. The main thing to improve is the GPU later.
The 5600g offers sufficient performance for an iGPU.

be quiet! System Power 10 550 W 80+...
Just a few days ago someone asked about comparing the FX 6300 and FX 8150. They mentioned the FX 6300 is newer, uses less power, and offers better performance per core, but are unsure how it would handle modern software and games with multi-threading... They thought they might give such a setup away for free if the cost isn't too high.
Thanks for the reply!
I did clarify that to my colleague, but it seems money remains the biggest obstacle. A quick look at a few sites suggested that buying an i3 with the motherboard and RAM would make this choice financially unfeasible. I know the FX lineup has lost popularity since Ryzen came out, but that’s all I have right now. Ha ha.
Thanks for the suggestion! I'll go through it after dinner.
I'm mainly spending on the peripherals and the new PSU/case, which is the only real expense here. My colleague kept pushing for more than what makes sense.
That's correct, including the licence. As I mentioned before, this is essentially one of my previous builds without the PSU, case, and hard drives. I'm still unsure where to source the PSU and case since I'm comparing options for the best deal. I'm checking Amazon, Scan, Ebuyer, Ebay and other typical places.
The OS cost of £400 falls under my build or purchase threshold.
A proper standalone Windows license equals 25% of that amount.
At this price point, several i3-i5 or Ryzen models are available on Amazon, including the OS, with options for keyboards and mice as well.
