Thoughts on Alien: Isolation?
I recently played Alien: Isolation and was really impressed. My full thoughts are shared in my video review here. You can check it out at the link provided. I'd love to hear your impressions or thoughts on the game. Let's talk about it!
Spent roughly an hour using it, then lost interest and removed it.
I've noticed these Amnesia-inspired titles that feel like they're losing their edge have faded from the scene. The idea seems overused and has become quite repetitive. Outlast might be the final attempt at quality, but it fell short in the end. I still prefer games where you can actively resist. Fear isn't just about being powerless; it's also about knowing you can defend yourself. The Dead Space series balances weaponry with intense threats that keep tension high. Once players get comfortable, the smaller enemies become manageable, but the tougher foes and varied challenges maintain excitement. Even F.E.A.R. focused on psychological impact rather than helplessness. There are many other elements in horror games that get overlooked in favor of chasing popularity.
My feedback will arrive soon today. I really enjoyed it a lot. I don’t like horror games much—tight controls and genuinely scary. Regarding performance, my i3-4130 with GTX 760 managed around 60 frames per second consistently on Ultra. Still, the game looks amazing. Just a note: the in-game anti-cheat isn’t strong enough, and even trying to bypass it in the Nvidia panel didn’t make a difference.
Have you given it a shot? You’re equipped with weapons that can harm both people and robots, yet the Alien remains untouchable. You’re allowed to fire your flamethrower, though it only makes it wary for a short time.
It's actually impressive. At the highest 1080p settings I tested, I maintained around 85 fps on average, reaching up to 120 Fps without dropping below 60. The game played smoothly and ran consistently. While streaming it live to Twitch at 1080p 60fps, I used a 4790K GPU with a GTX 670. Surprisingly, it performed well with my hardware. I did encounter a crash once after about 15 hours of playtime, likely due to XSplit. I enjoy the Dead Space series—it keeps me on edge when you can retaliate. Yes, Alien: Isolation still gives you that tense experience; you can defeat humans and androids using weapons like melee tools, stun rods, a revolver, shotgun, bolt gun, and flamethrower. Grenades are also useful for eliminating threats. The Alien won't be killed outright, but it can be repelled with fire. You must carefully manage your ammo and resources since everything is limited.
Usually I watch content on various platforms. I personally dislike the Alien or Predator series, so I didn’t want to invest in them based on that idea. Still, it gives a feeling of powerlessness. From what I’ve seen, humans and androids don’t seem like a real danger. As mentioned earlier, it looks like they aren’t much of a threat, which removes tension. Also, the lack of ammo isn’t too bothersome since the game allows stealth play and smart strategy to avoid problems.
I'm really enjoying this experience so far (~8.5 hours in). It runs smoothly and captures an authentic alien atmosphere, which matches what I liked about the movie. The other games were decent, but this one stands out as the best I've seen. The only issues are the large textures—windows and models look blurry—and the lip-syncing, which feels outdated compared to modern standards. It's quite disappointing and needs significant improvements. This is one of the few current titles that genuinely excites me for my next session, especially since I chose the Ripley edition.
