I upgraded to a new H150i 360mm AiO for my 12900k because the 240mm model didn’t perform well. During a cinebench test, I reached 81°C, which was impressive. Later, when I tried to overclock, it dropped back after throttling. A subsequent run showed a sudden spike to 100°C despite the coolant still being cool. What might have led to this temperature increase?

Air trapped in the pump or other areas limiting flow. Early pump breakdown. Insecure fastening or loose connections.

The pump is running smoothly based on iCUE, and the mounting looks fine. To remove any trapped air pockets, you can shake the case. In your note, shaking caused fluid sounds, likely indicating bubbles moving around.

I kept the cooler in place but left out the middle third of the CPU, which hadn't had thermal paste yet. It spread nicely on the cooler, and after reapplying it, it's still warm but not reaching 100°C. It's getting close to the high 90s, which is better than immediate 100°C.
