Hey! I’m trying to figure out what’s going on with my PC and would really appreciate any advice or suggestions from someone who might have faced a similar situation. I got it built about a year ago. Here’s what I have: Intel Core i9 (9th Gen) 9900k, Asus Rog Strix Z390-F motherboard, 2 x Western Digital Black NVMe 500GB SSD, 1 x Samsung 500GB SSD, 4 x 16GB Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3200 MHz, MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Ti. About a week ago I started seeing random blue screen errors with codes like Bad_Pool_Header, System_Service_Exception, Kernel_Security_Check_Failure, and more. The list keeps going, but the main point is I rarely get the same error twice.
I also noticed that when backing up data to a new external drive, my USB ports would disconnect and reconnect during file transfers. This wasn’t due to a faulty HDD cable (it works on my laptop) or a port issue (checked from the back), since my mouse and keyboard worked fine.
My first attempt was reinstalling Windows with the latest drivers, but that didn’t help. I ran Windows Memory Diagnostics and Memtest86++ without issues, and FurMark tested the GPU smoothly (max temp reached 82°C). I moved the hard drive and GPU to another machine, which functioned perfectly for a few days. While I tried rebuilding the problematic setup, I swapped out the RAM with a brand-new one of the same specs, replaced the motherboard (Asus recommended RMA for the ROG Strix), and installed an Aorus Z390 Pro. I also reinstalled Windows on a brand-new 500GB SSD from Western Digital.
Despite these changes, crashes still occur, which is really frustrating. My next concern is the CPU and/or power supply unit. The PSU is a Corsair HX 1200, it’s been 14 months, and I haven’t seen any problems so far. I don’t use any RGB lights or high-power accessories except the GPU.
I ran the CPU test with Intel’s utility and everything looked good. I’m out of ideas and would really appreciate any insights. Even if you know of paid services that could help, it would mean a lot. Thanks in advance, Dee!
It seems your power supply unit might be the issue. I experienced frequent crashes and strange BSODs, all linked to the old Antec PSU you were using.
Possible issues could include faulty RAM, a failing drive, or incompatible drivers. Various factors might be responsible!
I encountered this problem on my old X470 board. I resolved it by updating the BIOS. It seemed the XMP setting in the RAM was responsible. The system had been stable for over a year before suddenly losing performance with XMP enabled. After the BIOS update, everything worked fine again.
