Hello everyone, I recently assembled a PC with these specifications: AMD AM5 7950X (16 cores / 32 threads), MSI PRO X670-P Wi-Fi, ADATA 16x2 GB 6400 MHz CL32 RAM, Samsung 990 Pro 2TB NVMe SSD, EVGA 3080Ti FTW GPU, and an EVGA GA Series 850W 80+ Gold PSU (5 years). The problem I’m encountering is that the system will abruptly shut down when launching a game, such as Total War 3K. It won’t power on and will require disabling the main power supply before it restarts. I opened Windows 10 Professional’s Event Viewer and attached a screenshot here. I’m wondering if there’s an issue with the power supply, as I saw a critical kernel error labeled “Power” under Event ID. What could be causing this?

When you need to turn off the PSU using the switch in the back, it means the device is activating safety features, often due to excessive current. This typically points to a defective or insufficient PSU.

Possible issue might be related to insufficient power supply. Everything else appears normal. Also, the upgrade from an AM4 3900X to the current board could increase power consumption.

850W provides ample power for your project, do you have an extra PSU available? If not, would you consider adjusting component voltages such as the CPU and GPU to determine if the PSU is the issue?

It seems the CPU consumes more power. I don't know how long your PSU has been in use. You mentioned a PSU that would shut down when the GPU used more power, which is likely due to its age. After replacing it with a new one, the issue disappeared.

PSU loses efficiency with age... no matter what you do. It deteriorates more when operating under high load consistently.

I contacted EVGA, but I expect no response until Tuesday.

The 850W model comes with the same warranty as the 1600W Supernova G2, which is a decade.
